Mother Nature is a Cranky Bitch

Thursday was quite a day here in Dallas. It started storming Wednesday night and didn' let up until Thursday afternoon. Until then, it put on quite a show. Lightening struck my office building a knocked out our internet, so I went home early. When I got home, we had no electricity, no cell phone service, and no internet access. So no blog until now. Sorry for the delay. Mother nature doesn't listen to little people like me.

What I Wore While Trying to Avoid Lightening and Floods:

  • red tank (CAbi, thrifted Goodwill)
  • paisley skirt, shortened by me (thrifted, Goodwill)
  • camel cardi (thrifted, Genesis)
  • brown boots (Cloudwalkers)
  • belt (thrifted, Goodwill)
  • goldtone chain necklace (via Macy's)
  • goldtone brooch (thrifted)

I don't have any pics of what I ate for dinner, b/c I was in a movie. I will tell the truth about it though. I've been craving and therefor constantly talking about all-you-can-eat-pizza at Studio Movie Grill. So we escaped our no-electricity house and went to see Land of the Lost. Ugh. It's a crap movie. Don't bother. It's not even good for a bad movie.

Anyway, here's the view outside our house. That car is parked at the curb and the water is 1/2 way up the license plate. Yikes. The street was completely underwater (no sidewalks, etc) and the park across the street was underwater too. It took mor than 24 hours for all of our services to get turned back on. And on my walk this morning, I counted at least 10 trees that were struck by lightening.

Very nice colors, they look great on you. Your hair also looks super-shiny, or is that too personal? Anyway, looking great!

WOW that flooding sucks. Nice to get off work early though, even though no electricity and internet.
Oh you look pretty cute too.

you look absolutely fabulous in this outfit!

i heard about the bad storms up ya'll's way. we got a bit down here too, but this time around, my house didn't get hit by hail. thank goodness because i just got a new roof. where erik lives (8 or so miles from me) there was 3 inch diameter hail and 2 tornadoes!

Beth - thanks! Rand said I needed some flowers woven into it and then I could be a Druid. Ha!

Struggler - thanks! A comliment is always appreciated. To be honest though, my hair is really dry and only ever looks nice and skiny when it is also nice a greasy and in need of a wash. Oh well. At least I only have to wash my hair twice a week.

Denise - thanks. It was nice to go home, but it was not nice to not earn any money. :)

eednic - yikes. Hail does so much damage. I didn't see any of that here, but we have enough lightening to really scare you.

Charlotte - thanks!

The Thrifty Stylist - thanks! That is so sweet. I was bored with pony tails and just wearing it down plain. So this was different!

I should preface this by saying I'm not at all a health-nut and only visit the doctor once a year, but if your hair is so dry it bothers you, have you tried fish oil tablets? They were recommended by my Doc as about the only change I might make at my last appointment, and I've really noticed my hair has improved as a result. Just a thought...
Then again, I'd love to only need to wash my hair twice a week - you have the last laugh there!

You look great!

Go see "Up" (the animated movie) - it is a lovely date movie, especially for married couples. My husband and I both loved it - we laughed, we cried and it gave us a wonderful glow for days. Trust me - it is a fantastic movie.

Wow, sorry about all of the inconvenient storm issues!

I love your printed skirt. It's such a versatile combination of colors - looks good with mustard, brown, pink, purple, blue... what a great thrift find!

I agree with Sheila about her recommendation to see "Up". It was fantastic!

Struggler - thanks for the suggestion. I've been trying to remember to work healthy oils into my diet. I've considered the fish oil pills before, but I am horrible about remembering to take pills. I'll be good for a week, but then I forget.

Sheila - thanks! I've been considering seeing that. I've heard good things.

Kari - thanks! I must admit that I fell in love with this skirt when I saw it. And it actually made me a little sad that in order to get it the right length I had to get rid of a little fox hunting scene on the bottom. But it's probably more versitile without it.

Love love love the skirt AND the little braid. I think that style is so cute. I cannot wait for my bangs to grow out so I can do that agian.

Thanks, Erin! I really had fun putting the braid in my hair. I think I am going to try some more adventurous styles for my hair rather than pony tail all the time.
