How To Make A Big-Ass Flower

Several of you asked about how I made my Big-Ass Flower last week. Here is my step by step.

(FYI - I formatted this several ways over several hours and could never get it to where it looked the same on my home computer, my work computer, and on my Google Reader. It seems to look better in Blogger than in Google Reader. I may try again later to get the formatting fixed but I just had to quit or I would have gone bonkers. Sorry.)

Items needed:

long narrow scarf
safety pin
stick pin
brooch

Step One:

take one end of scarf in hand (I had mine doubled to make it more narrow.)

Step Two:

fold scarf back over on itself (where you fold it over should be based on how big you want the flower to be)

Step Three:

fold over again, slightly over from previous fold, so that it it starts to create petals.

Step Four:

repeat

Step Five:

repeat

Step Six:

repeat

Step Seven:

repeat, until entire scarf is used.

Step Eight:

use safety pin to secure all layers of petals together.

Step Nine:

Use stick pin to secure "flower" to shirt.

Step Ten:

Use flower brooch to form center of Big-Ass Flower.

A few notes: the scarf I used is a very thin silk scarf, which made it easier to secure with a safety pin. Also, I just used what I had on hand. If I hadn't had a stick pin, I would have used a bigger safety pin or something else to secure it to my shirt. Be creative. It never hurts to try stuff out.

Any questions?

Wow, your flowers turned out so cute. I think you have better dexterity than I do! Maybe I just need to practice more. Thanks for the tutorial!

Sher and Hillary - Have fun with it!

And, Kari, I had to do it 3 or 4 times before it looked decent, so don't be afraid to try it!
