Gifts in the Mail!

A few weeks ago I offered to send a workout video that I was bored with to the first reader that requested it. (evanadine, if you email me your address, I'm still happy to send that workout ball video to you.) In the comments to that post, LeShaune offered to send me some workout DVDs that she had. I got 3 DVDs in the mail. Is she awesome, or what? Thanks, LeShaune!!

What I Did Thanks To TexNYQueen:

2009-08-29 combo

This weekend I tryed out the first video - hula! Silly me thought she was sending me a hula hoop video. LOL. It was really Island Girl Hula Dance Fitness Workout.

I loved this video. It was totally different from any workout video I've ever done. It wasn't the hardest workout, but it kept me engaged and I definitely worked up a sweat. Plus, I got to work out barefoot. You can't beat that. Why is it such a pain to put on shoes?

Thanks again, LeShaune! You are one awesome lady!

Why Would You Do That?!?!

Oh how I love this man. Lately he's been downloading my blog pics off my camera and emailing them to me in a zip file. Today this pic ---> was mixed in with them. I'm a dino freak and he knows just how to make me smile.

Rand's Daily Outfit Assessment: "Why would you do that? It's like wearing plaid and stripes. Why would you do that?!?!?! But I like that your belt buckle is a mobius strip." Yep, that's my nerdy fiance.

What I Wore That Freaked Rand Out:

  • blue/cream dress (Target)
  • purple/purple cardi (Target)
  • blue/cream patent pumps ($9.99 Shoe Store)
  • goldtone brooch, worn as a belt buckle (borrowed from Maria)
  • gold earrings (hand-me-down from Mom)
  • cloisonette key necklace (thrifted, Goodwill)

Edited to Add - Kasmira just left a comment and pointed out that she did almost the exact same thing in April. If it's good enough for Kasmira then we know it's certainly good enough for me. In fact, my guess is that her outfit has been tucked away in the back of my brain for months and what I thought was an original outfit that I came up with, was really just a copycat of Kasmira. Thanks for the inspiration, Kasmira! You rock!

What I Ate That Made My Mouth Burn:

  • breakfast: cheesy egg, bagel, blueberries
  • lunch: smoked salmon sandwich, carrot, red and green bell peppers, apple
  • snack: cheese stick, Cliff Z bar, banana

CopyCat - Andrea

Just yesterday Andrea of A Cat of an Impossible Color posted an outfit that I threatened to copy and here it is already. It was just too wonderful to delay.

Rand's Daily Outfit Assessment: "I like the suspenders. I just want to grab them!" Then he made to grab them. I couldn't decide if it was because he thought they were sexy or if he wanted to snap them like a 13 year old boy snaps a 13 year old girl's bra. I didn't stick around to find out.

For dinner we had our first spinach harvest. This ------> isn't really spinach; it's a vine, but they call it spinach b/c it tastes like it. We stuck some in our salad. It was a little bitter, but delish.

What I Wore While Copying Andrea:

  • blue wide-leg slacks (Gap)
  • red plaid blouse (Rainbow)
  • teal T (Old Navy)
  • red suspenders (thrifted Goodwill)
  • red suede wedges (Old Navy)
  • teal earrings (??)
  • scrabble tile necklace (Etsy, unknown vendor)

What I Ate From My First Harvest:

  • breakfast: cheesy egg, bagel, apple
  • lunch:smoked salmon sandwich, carrot, red and green bell peppers, banana
  • snack: Cliff Z, Greek Gods nonfat yogurt, blueberries
  • dinner: rosemary chicken, corn, side salad WITH SPINACH FROM GARDEN
  • dessert: mini microwave cake with blueberries
Exercise:

3 worktime walks - 1.5 miles

Total for the Day: 27.5 points, 4 glasses water, 1.5 miles walking

Homage to the Purple Lady

When I was growing up, I lived in southern Virginia. And there was this woman who everyone knew of. She was The Purple Lady because everything she wore was purple. Everything. I even saw her once with a purple purse that she had made from carpet. Where do you find purple carpet? Well, I'm sure she had lots of it b/c not only did she only wear purple but she also extended purple into every part of her life - she even painted the public light posts in front of her house purple up as far as she could reach. So, I dedicate today's outfit to her. She would have approved of the color of my sweater, even if the other items weren't quite the right shade of purple.

What I Wore While Channeling The Purple Lady:

  • lavendar tweed skirt (Lane Bryant)
  • lavendar T (Target)
  • purple sweater (Target)
  • purple/taupe faux snakeskin flats (Target)
  • beaded belt (no clue. It's sooo old)
  • fauz champagne earings (thrifted new, Goodwill)
  • faux champagne necklace (thrifted, Ladies of Charity)
  • purple glass brooch (inherited from grandmother)

What I Ate After A New WW Meeting:

  • breakfast: cheesy egg, bagel, apple
  • lunch: smoked salmon sandwich, carrot, yellow squash, cantaloupe
  • snacks: nonfat greek yogurt, blueberries, Cliff Z bar
  • dinner: footlong veggie delight sub with cheese (Subway)
  • dessert: 5 almonds

Exercise:

I totally forgot one of my walks and stood up my walking budding in the afternoon. Oops. 1.25 miles walking.

Weekly Weigh-In:

I tried out a new WW meeting today on the advice of a neighbor that usually attends this meeting. As a result I weighed in after eating all my daily food except dinner. Usually I weigh in first thing Sat mornings, before I eat anything. So that combined with some poor shoices over the weekend resulted in a 3 lb GAIN. ugh. If I had to guess, I would say that I actually gained about 1/2 lb and the other 2.5 lbs is just from the different weigh in time. That's based on what my scale at home says. I'm trying not to let it get me down. I just need to compare this weight to what the meeting next Tuesday evening says. Then it's apples to apples and not oranges. However, I am bummed that they had a substitute meeting leader, so I didn't even get to see if liked this leader. And I have no idea what the meeting topic was. Basically she just told us about her life. It was odd. But I did get to share my diet margarita recipe, which all the other Tex-Mex loving ladies (that's all of us here in Texas) seemed very interested in. So maybe not a total waste of an hour.

Total for the Day: 26.5 points, 1.25 miles walking, 3 pound gain

The Colorblind Color Catch

Rand's Daily Outfit Assessment: "I really like the skirt, but I don't like how the shirt doesn't match." Yes, the colorblind man just called me out for my blues not matching. I thought with the white cardi that it wasn't very noticable, but if Rand noticed, it must be worse than I thought.

What I Wore That Didn't Match Even if You are Colorblind:

  • blue T (Old Navy)
  • white cardi (Target)
  • blue/white pencil skirt (K-Mart)*
  • faux ostritch heels (Exchange)
  • orange wooden necklace (thrifted via Goodwill)
  • faux pearl earrings (??)

* I bought this skirt a few months ago and it was a tiny bit too tight. But I loved it so much that I didn't want to send it back. Today I tried it on and it fit perfectly. Well, until I tried to get into my 4Runner. That was interesting. So, it fits great while standing but is still to tight while sitting. I give it a few more weeks before it is perfect. Yay!

What I Ate That Was Mostly Orange:

  • breakfast: cheesy egg, banana
  • lunch: smoked salmon sandwich (orange #1), yellow squash, carrot (orange #2), cantaloupe (orange #3)
  • snack: apple, Cliff Z bar, cheddar stick (orange #4)
  • dinner: parchment tilapia (carrots = orange #5)
  • evening snack: 11 almonds*, cheddar stick (orange #6)

* Thanks, Sheila! Per your previous suggestion, when I realized that I needed to eat 4 more points I grabbed some almonds. It was perfect!

Exercise:

I only got in one walk at work today b/c I left early with a pounding headache that persisted until I went to bed.

Total for the Day: 27 points, 2 glasses of water, 3/4 mile walk

  • cream platform wedges (Suzanne Summers via Discount Shoe Warehouse)

  • earrings (gift from Aunt)
  • necklace (??), combined with brooch (Bren's Gemstone Jewelry on Etsy)
What I Ate That Was Forgotten:

  • dinner: veggie stir fry

Attack of the Faux Bangs

Today I spent most of the day with my Mom. She came into town so we could pick out wedding invitations. When I asked her what I thought about my faux bangs, all she said was that they used to do the same thing when she was young. What do you think about me with bangs? I'm pretty sure that I look better without bangs, but you can't go through life with the same haircut you had since high school. Sometimes you just have to shake it up. I really want a change, but every time I've had bangs before they were bad b/c my hair is so wavy and frizzy. I wonder if having heavier bangs might work. Anyway, it's highly unlikely that I would do anything drastic like cut bangs right now since I've got the wedding coming up, but you never know what I might do when I come back from the honeymoon. So I would love to hear your opinion about bangs as an option for my face.

What I Wore While Picking Out Wedding Invitations:

  • blue tank (Target)
  • green wrap sweater (Target)
  • blue floral skirt, shortened (thrifted, Goodwill)
  • earrings (I can't remember)
  • black leather sandals (Truflex)
  • faux bangs (yours truly)
  • golden snitch necklace (Love Erin Designs) *

* yes I am a total Harry Potter geek. I may have screamed and jumped up and down a little when Erin said she was going to start making these necklaces. Shhh don't tell anyone that I'm that geeky. Ok who am I kidding? Everyone already knows.

What I Ate That Was Mostly Cooked By Other People:

  • breakfast: scrambled egg with jalapenos, onions, and Laughing Cow cheese (prepared by Rand), alternative bagel, cantaloupe
  • lunch: original sandwich and side salad (Chick-fil-A)
  • snack: string cheese, cantaloupe, Cliff Z bar
  • dinner: BBQ Beef Cups (made by Rand again), roasted broccoli, pink lemonade

Exercise:

Still nothing b/c my calves are even worse today. Lazy day for Tina!

Total for the Day: 32.5 points (5.5 points from Weekly Allowance), no exercise

Mad Men Your Hair!

I woke up this morning and was inspired to actually do something complicated with my hair. I've been watching a lot of Mad Men lately, and this hairstyle ------> really caught my eye. So I spent quite a bit of time braiding, then putting up, then coiling and pinning my hair. (You can't tell from this pic, but the back has a series of little curles pinned into it.) But then I put my clothes on and the hairstyle was totally wrong for the outfit. So I let down the back half of my hair and just left the braid and the bump. Meh.

What I Wore That Didn't Match My Hair:

  • skirt (Lane Bryant)
  • cowlneck sweater (Lane Bryant)
  • red tank (CAbi, thrifted Goodwill)
  • red suede pumps (Jessica Simpson, thrifted Goodwill)
  • broken earring (? Ross?)
  • necklace (hand-me-down from a friend)
  • bracelet (? Ross?)
  • white canvas studded belt (new, Goodwill)

What I Ate After Rand Stole My Lunch Bread:

  • breakfast: cheesy egg, Alternative bagel, figs from farmers market
  • lunch: buddig on hotdog bun, cantaloupe (didn't eat the watermelon), snap peas
  • snack: Stonyfield yogurt, Cliff Z bar, gala apple
  • dinner: whole wheat pasta with plain sauce, roasted squash, 1 glass red wine

Exercise:

Yesterday I walked down the stairs all the way to the lobby. That's 17 flights. While that didn't really take much effort, my calves are now killing me. My muscles feel like little rocks and I can barely walk. So, we only went for one walk today at work instead of 2 or 3.

Total for the Day: 27 points*, 3/4 mile walk

* my new minimum is 27

Dallas Swap

Are you in the DFW area
and
interested in meeting up for a clothing swap?

Erin and I would love to host a free clothing swap if there is enough interest. It would be a basic swap. You bring gently used items and you trade with other girls. It's not set in stone yet, but we would probably use a "ticket and take turns" system for the first few rounds (You get a ticket for each item you donate to the swap, we take turns selecting items). After that, the leftover items will be sort of free for the taking (but be fair! No grabbing everything to sell to Buffalo Exchange!). Items left after that will be given to Goodwill.

If you are interested, please leave a comment and tell us your sizes. Don't be embarassed to post your sizes online. I'm about a 16W/XXL and I wear size 8 shoes, and Erin is a 4/6 so you can see that we already are starting out with a broad range of size options. If you don't want to post your sizes but are interested in participating, feel free to email me. This is important info b/c we want to be sure that we have more than one girl in each size range so that everyone has the possibility of finding a few good swaps. So 'fess up!

Awards & the Amish

Sher from Fashion After Forty gave me this lovely award. Thanks, Sher! I want to pass it along to Hillary from byHillary because she has such a nice vintage style that I think is perfect for this award.

Rand's Daily Outfit Assessment: "You look Amish." This sparked a mini disagreement about whether this was true. So he googled it, came back to the closet and said that he was wrong. Then when I got to work, I googled it, and I see what he was talking about. It's not really Amish looking, but I think the length and the white skirt sticking out the bottom of the dress is a little reminiscent of Amish clothing.

What I Wore While Not (?) Looking Amish:

  • green dress (Target)
  • white dress (thrifted Goodwill)
  • aqua peep toe heels (via Nordstrom)
  • satin scarf (no clue)
  • skinny black belt (Target)
  • bee earrings (Love Erin Designs)

What I Ate After Going to the Grocery Store Twice Today:

  • breakfast: cheesy eggs, Alternative bagel, way too ripe for Tina banana
  • lunch: buddig on sandwich thins, spinach, yellow and red grape toms, cantaloupe
  • snack: yogurt, Cliff Z bar, apple
  • dinner: Pork with Figs & Balsamic Vinegar, roll, roasted cauliflower
  • dessert: skinny cow ice cream

What I Did While Wish I Had on Shorts:

I walked 1.25 miles at work today.

Total for the Day: 27 points*, 20 minutes of walking

Insert Clever Title Here

Rand's Daily Outfit Assessment: "Sexy. It's short." and right before I left "You look sexy." Hey do you think Rand liked this simple outfit maybe??

What I Wore That Was Shorter Than Usual:

  • black/white jersey dress (thrifted, Goodwill)
  • pink belt (Walmart)
  • black satin ballet flats (via Kohl's)
  • earrings and bracelet (Ross?)
  • necklace (gift from my sister for being in her wedding)

What I Ate That Was Soggy:

  • breakfast: barley pumpkin sludge
  • lunch: rosemary chicken breast sandwich, asian cabbage salad, red and yellow grape tomatoes, and watermelon
  • snack: Rachel's pink grapefruit and lychee yogurt, cantaloupe, Cliff Z bar
  • dinner: red beans and rice with turkey sausage and extra beans, side salad
  • dessert: Skinny Cow ice cream cone

What I Did While I Wasn't Quite Awake:

Step aerobics is a little difficult when you're not fully awake yet. But I was determined to get in some exercise before going to work and I had In Shape With Sharon Mann Tivoed, so I suffered through. Normally I like step but it requires a little bit of pep in your step to be a good workout and I was just slogging through it. But it was better than sleeping in another 30 minutes. And after you blast through the commercials, it's really short. Really short.

Walked with my friend again today, plus once on my own for another mile and a half today. Yay!

Total for the Day: 26.5 points*, 18 minutes of step, 1.5 miles walking

* under again. I think it's all the filling fruits and veggies, b/c I was plenty full today and I couldn't see stuffing in more food just to add 1.5 points before I went to sleep.

T-shirts at Work

No funny statements from Rand today. How about a funny face instead? This is him looking at me out the window in the front door. He makes the best funny faces. It's part of why I love him.

Oh and he picked out my shoes for me this morning. I was trying to decide between two pairs and he helped me out. I must admit that he was right. Sadly however, these shoes are not going to stay in my wardrobe. They fit me like slingbacks and I cannot wear slingbacks. So after one wearing, I am done with them. Should I try to sell them or donate them?

What I Wore With Some Help From Rand:

  • brown skirt (Lane Bryant)
  • yellow graphic T (Lane Bryant)
  • brown leather belt (thrifted, Goodwill)
  • tweed pumps (Nine West via 6 pm)
  • gold tone belt, doubled and worn as necklace (thrifted Goodwill)

What I Ate While My Tummy Rumbled Nonstop:

  • breakfast: Barley Pumpkin Sludge
  • lunch: Buddig beef sandwich, watermelon, celery, grape tomatoes
  • snack: string cheese, banana, Cliff Z bar, cheese taco
  • dinner: Hoisin Glazed Chicken, cabbage slaw, Alexia Roll
  • dessert: Skinny Cow ice cream sandwich

What I Did While The Park Was Full of People:

I walked a mile at work today and then Rand suggested a walk around the park after dinner, adding another 1/2 mile. This is what was going on in the small park next to our house: a boot camp class, kids playing, people jogging, people playing with their dogs, 2 kickball games, pick-up basketball, and...people fencing in period costume. No one was in the pool anymore and no one was in the tennis court, but other than that, the park was full of so much activity. I love it. Esp the fencers.

Total for the Day: 24 points*, 6 glasses water, 1.5 mile walking

*oops. I am supposed to eat a minimum of 28 every day. For some reason I thought I had, but when I looked the next morning I was short 4 points.

We Can Do It!

Rand's Daily Outfit Assessment: "You look like the '40s. Have a good day at work, Rosie." As in Rosie the Riveter. hehe. The colors aren't in the right places, but they are all there - polka dot head scarf and all. So I salute Rosie and her message. We can do it!

What I Wore While NOT Riveting:

  • navy wool pencil skirt (thrifted, Goodwill)
  • yellow blouse (thrifted, Goodwill)
  • polka dot scarf (thrifted, Goodwill)
  • red croc heels (ann marino)
  • faux pearl earrings and necklace (?)

What I Ate That Totally Did Not Satisfy the Craving I Thought I Had:

  • breakfast: I'm gonna call this Barley Pumpkin Sludge. Doesn't that sound yummy? I just threw some random stuff in the crockpot to made a breakfast porridge. It was barley, quinoa, canned pumpkin, pumpkin pie spices, fat free half and half, and chopped apple. It's not bad.
  • lunch: turkey sandwich, watermelon, coleslaw
  • snack: Cliff Z bar, string cheese
  • dinner: pesto pizza. SIGH. Wanted it. Had to have it. Rand tried to talk me out of it. And totally didn't satisfy the craving I thought I had.

Exercise:

A friend is working in my building this week. So we agreed to meet twice a day to take a quick 1/2 mile walk around the block.

Total for the day: 40 points, 1/2 mile walk

Warehouse Meltdown

We worked offsite today. That meant 8 hours in a warehouse hauling banker's boxes off of pallets and over to tables so we could review all the documents inside. It was very hot and very sweaty work. I literally had sweat dripping off my nose at one point. And that was only at 9:45 am! Who knew being an attorney was so glamorous?

Rand Daily Outfit Assessment: "Did you put that brooch on just for your blog? You better take pictures before you go to work. You are going to be gross when you get home." Well, I didn't put the brooch on for the blog. Well maybe I did. I don't know. All I know was that I looked a lot better with the brooch on. And he was right about looking gross when I got home. YUCK.

What I Wore While Sweating Up a Storm:

  • black V-neck T (Target)
  • green cargo capris (Sonoma)
  • white velcro sneakers (Target)
  • brooch (thrifted, Goodwill)
  • silvertone hoops (ancient so who knows)

I decided I wanted to wear this floral brooch today, so this outfit is built around that.

What I Wore Because of a Brooch:

  • brooch (Target)
  • brown slacks (Lane Bryant)
  • magenta blouse (Target)
  • cream stretch belt (Dots)
  • rafia shoes (Bandalino)
  • bug ring (Dots)

  • champange faux pearl earrings (thrifted new, Goodwill)

What I Ate At the End of a 10 Day Food Bender:

  • breakfast: alternative bagel, greek yogurt w/ honey, watermelon
  • lunch: 3 huge slices of pizza (but not the salad b/c it had honey on it - gross)
  • snack: chocolate donettes, reeses cookies
  • dinner: didn't eat b/c stuffed from donettes

What I Did on a Ball:

Another workout video from the library: Quick Fix Stability Ball. It's 3 ten minute workouts. I've come to realize that stability ball workouts are pretty lame. I think I am going to give up on them. This video is going back to the library. I'll take my stability ball to the office to use as a chair. And that just leaves this workout tape that I should just give away. Does anyone want it?

Monday with Mom

Still no work today, so my mom came into town to spend the afternoon with me. We saw Harry Potter (a tradition for us), had lunch, and went shopping for a dress for her to wear to my wedding. I just realized that I should have snapped some pics of her in the dresses that she bought. She looked FOXY!

What I Wore While Spending the Day With My Mom:

  • purple beaded tank (Express)
  • maxi dress (via Ross)
  • bracelet (gift from my sister Stacy)
  • earrings (inherited from grandma)
  • flip-flops (gift at a friend bachelorette weekend)

Can I Get Your Input?

I received an email today from a marketing company that represents Old Navy. They offered me a $5 gift card "to show their appreciation for keeping a positive outlook on their brand." My first thought is that it's attempt to induce me to say nice things about Old Navy, so I should turn down the offer. (No big deal b/c it's only $5.) But then I realized that I do post a lot of outfits with lots of Old Navy items, so maybe it's just like they want to say thanks for all the times that I have given them a little "publicity" by wearing their clothes on my blog. I would never take money just to "promote" a product or brand. But is it wrong to take a gift for talking about something that I would talk about anyway? Because let's be honest, I love Old Navy and I own a lot of their clothes. And even though it's only $5, that goes a long way at Old Navy esp in their clearance section which is where you know I love to shop. LOL.

I don't think I will be accepting this thank you from Old Navy b/c I didn't start this blog for any personal gain (maybe some personal loss...of weight), but I would love to hear what you think esp if any of you have received the same sort of thing from Old Navy or other companies.
