How Does Your Garden Grow?

Mistress Mary, Quite Contrary, How does your garden grow?

Well I don't have any silver bells or cockle shells, nor is anything all in a row. But I do have a tiny kitchen garden. It's got onions thanks to the previous tenant, and then I planted tomatoes, red bell peppers, basil, and catnip. I wanted to try hanging plants, so I've got these super chic Jason's Deli plastic buckets that I snagged from when they've catered lunch at work. I love repurposing things! Anyway, I had time to either water the garden or take my photos before work. As you know from my photos at the gas station, I'm not going to let a little thing like chores or errands prevent me from taking outfit photos. Just be glad I didn't need to clean out the litter box this morning. eeeww. Doesn't the thought just put you right off your fashion fun?

What I Wore While Watering The Garden:

What I Ate That Almost Put Me Off Broccoli:

I didn't eat breakfast and I honestly don't remember what I ate for lunch. But for dinner we had chicken caesar salad and broccoli soup. Well, we had a few bites of broccoli soup. It was pretty damn gross. I got it from one of my WW cookbooks. It wasn't a real recipe, it was a little mini side-bar recipe tacked on to their caesar salad recipe. Well, we're drowing in broccoli from our CSA from right now, so I decided to give it a try. YUCK! Maybe the recipe should have called for the broccoli to be cooked first, b/c this was like eating watery grass. DOUBLE YUCK! I put it on the stove and added a few other things to it after dinner, so we'll see if my cooked version is any better.

raw broccoli soup does sound pretty gross! I've been trying a lot of WW recipes lately. Most are pretty good (especially the black bean brownies!) but I'll now know to skip this one.

You look so great for watering. Thanks for reminding me to water before I leave!

I have to have my poor husband do the cat boxes...I am so OCD that I would have to take a shower, wash my hair, change my shoes etc.

Love your hair this way. And I agree -- you look way cute for gardening detail!

Yeah, that broccoli soup sounds revolting. I'm not a fan of uncooked broccoli (I like to blanch it first to take the edge off) so I can't imagine a raw broc soup would be good.

I had a decent broccoli soup recipe I made that was only 2 or 3 WW points- I can dig it up for you if you want... and email it to you-

another way that I like to cook fresh broccoli is to roast it in the oven. Just sprinkle with a touch of evoo, salt, and pepper and bake it for about 15 minutes at 425, and it comes out super nutty and tasty- leftovers are great in salad or with pasta. :)

and you look really cute! love how you added orange to the mix! :)

I love broccoli soup! I also throw in cauliflower.

- sauteed onion in olive oil;
- lots of cooked broccoli/cauliflower and a few potatoes (for thickness) thrown through the blender with a mix of skim milk and chicken broth
- spices

Cook it all up for a few hours and add a couple of tablespoons of shredded asiago on top. Yum!

Kathryn - it was very gross. I just had my cooked version and it was better but nothing to write home about.

Lesa - Cleaning the litter box actually doens't bother me too much, probably b/c I have almost no sense of smell.

Monica - exactly! I'll eat raw brocolli, but I don't really care for it. Cooked, I adore it.

Andie - I LOVE roasted brocolli. I just discovered it about a year ago and now we make it at least once/week.

Sheila - thanks! If we ever get too much brocolli in our CSA box again, I'll have to try it.

eurochic - seriously. Yuck!
