I tried a low-slung belt today, and I should have known better. Whenever I try this look, it's awful on me. The queso baby (my belly) just gets highlighted with this style. But I was trying to work this new shirt into my wardrobe. It was the only thing that I didn't like out of a big box of stuff that I ordered online. It was only $7 and I HATE going to the post office to return things, so I knew I might as well try to wear since there was no chance I would actually send it back. It's too big in the waist, so I thought this styling might work. wrong!!
** ETA: I've gotten a lot of very nice comments saying that this belt looks great, doesn't emphasize my belly, etc. You guys are really sweet. I apreciate it!! Rand and I were talking about it, and his comment sums it up nicely "Well, you posted a very flattering picture. It was straight on. You should have shown them one with a little bit of a side angle. Then they would have seen." Rand is very sweet to me and he always thinks I look good, so if he agreed that the belt was a bad choice... Trust me when I say that that I basically had an arrow pointing out my vast belly.
What I Wore That Was Wrong, Wrong, WRONG:
- brown pinstripe pants (Gap)
- brown pattern tank (via Kmart)
- red suede heels (Jessica Simpson via Goodwill)
- mustard cardi (Lane Bryant)
- wooden belt (my only souvenier from my honeymoon in Costa Rica)
- red/brown necklace (Ashley Stewert)
- earrings (Target)

I think the look is very becoming. I especially like the combination of patterns and colors.
I'm not sure how the belt fastens, but you might be able to save it by punching another hole. I bought a leather punch for that purpose, but I've heard of others doing it with a drill.
I have to respectfully disagree with your assessment of the belt. I actually like this look better on you than when you belt up higher. I really think belting lower on you is more flattering for your figure type than belting up higher which tends to exaggerate your already generous bust. I hope you're not offended by this critique. I just wanted to say I think this look is more slimming on you and I think you look great!

I'm going to agree with "anon" above - I think you look fantastic today :-)
I also like the low-slung belt look. You look great!
I like this too - I think maybe you are just used to the look of belting higher. What about belting overtop of the cardigan instead?
I don't hate this look at all - and think that your stomach looks fine.
Very cute belt, btw - what a fitting souvenir for you!
I'm gonna have to join the people's opinion and say the belt looks fine, your outfit is great and I love how you put together those colors!
Usually when I try something new I feel all self conscious and that it looks awful.
I like the low slung belt as well.
Sometimes I wear the clothes, and sometimes the clothes wear me - frankly, I'm cool with either. :]
I agree with the OP's, this looks rocks for you!
Susan - thanks! I was happy with the pattern and color combos too.
Kasmira - thanks for the how-to advice. The belt can be tied tighter, which is how I will wear it in the future.
Monica - feel free to always give your honest opinion. I welcome any comments that are meant in a constructive spirit!
Tat - thanks!
Anon - thanks!
Sheila - I totally agree that part of the issue is that I am not used to the low-slung belt and that is part of the problem. But that's why I keep trying different things - I don't want to get stuck in a style. But in person the belt just sat on my belly in a very non-flattering way.
Shelley - thanks! I'm trying to start getting "useful" souveneirs when I travel.
Branka - thanks! I noticed that I ended up with a very autumnal color palette.
Lauren - "Sometimes I wear the clothes, and sometimes the clothes wear me" I LOVE IT!!!
rskmom - thanks!
BrooklynShoeBabe - Welcome to the blog! Thanks for commenting. Trust me when I say that I look much worse than this on a regular basis! I was just unhappy with the fat belly/belt combo. Hope to hear more from you in the future!
I think the belt looks fab on you! The whole outfit looks really put together and stylish.
-B. - thanks so much!
