Possums & Pearls

I felt so very french riding my bike to work while wearing this shirt-dress; all I needed was a loaf of crusty bread in a basket on the front of my bike. My french daydreams came crashing back to American reality when I stopped to take my photos in a neighbor's side yard (check out this huge flower bush). As I was standing there posing, this fat opossum comes lumbering down the road. You never see them during the day since they are nocturnal, but this was just happy as can be, trucking along in the street and then on the sidewalk. In my head he was singing "der der der de der. walkin' down the street. der de der de der." ha! Half of my photos are me staring and laughing at him.

And then on my way home, I spotted a mulberry tree in an abandoned lot. I love mulberries. We used to eat from the backyard when I would spend summers in Iowa. Yum. So when I got home, I grabbed a tub and Rand and we walked back to the tree to do some urban foraging. So you know I suffer from free-food-itis, but free, FOUND food is even better. Whoo hoo! I'll be eating those tomorrow.

What I Wore While Laughing at a Day Possum:

2010-05-13 combo

  • brown crochet tank (Old Navy)
  • black shirt-dress (via Goodwill)
  • brown tweed mules (really old, I don't remember)
  • brooch (via Goodwill)
  • bracelet (Ross?)
  • faux pearl earrings (new via Goodwill)
  • faux pearl necklaces (via local charity shop)

Today's jewelry was totally inspired by Kendi Everyday. I already had the black dress and brown accessories set out to wear, but when I saw her post wearing the same thing, I knew I had to snag her idea to wear it with champagne colored pearls. Thanks for the inspiration, Kendi!

Love this outfit! You must have looked totally French wearing this on your bike - all stylish and chic. I have a fear of opposums after I once came face-to-hissing-face with one :)

Heather - Yikes! Opossums are okay from a distance, but they really freak me out when they start hissing. We have a family of them that live under our porch and if I ever had one hiss at me, esp at night, I would scream like a little girl and run away.

Tina, how do you ride your bike in heels? Do you wear some shorts under the dress in order to prevent, uh, acidents?

Love this outfit and yes for LOW CALORIE free food!

I, too, suffer from free-food-itis- especially when it's growing and I pick it!

My mom & I spent mother's day out in the woods picking blackberries. We walked away with two huge buckets full! We had cobbler for dessert! Good stuff. :)

and now my parents have their own veggie garden (i'm TRYING to grow some cucumbers, and not successfully) LOL but I love going over to their place to pick veggies. :)

Cute bracelet! love it!

What no pic of the opossum? So glad to read he wasn't part of your found food. I still have issues with the idea of eating opossum soup - yuck!

Fabu on the pearls and belt - super cute outfit for bike riding.

You look really cute in that outfit and I love the belt (of course!).

Glad to know I'm not the only one who comes up with thoughts for wild animals, lol!

Great outfit, Tina! I was hoping for pictures of the possum (I've never seen one)!

You would totally fit in in France. :)

R - I actualyl rode my bike in flats and then changed into heels at work. I wear padded bike short under my dress or skirt to help with the "issues".

Kimberly - thanks! I must be doing something right if you approve!

Andie - I would die to be able to pick wild blackberries. When I lived in Virginia we used to pick wild blueberries. So tiny adn so flavorful!

LaShaune - I tried to get pics of him, but by the time I got over to my camera and changed the setting, he was too far away. Sad.

Sheeley - don't all wild animals have theme songs and human thoughts? LOL

Sheila - oui oui! Now I need some french pastries. (And I wonder why I am over overweight. ha!)

Brooke - thanks! I also have a cat voice, a dog voice, a bird voice, and a goat voice.
