My Shoes Are Too Big!

I pulled off my shoes today to see if they would fit into my new card cataloge. I was so sad to see that only my kitten heels and my flats would fit. As you can see from the pic ----> my pumps are just a tiny bit too big. If I wore lower heels they would work, but 75 of my heels won't fit. So very, very sad.

On to Plan B: we're going to use it in the garage as a tool chest until I can think of something better to do with it. Honestly, it's probably a good things b/c this would have consumed massive space in our bedroom. Don't believe me? Check out the pic at the bottom of this post. This thing is 5 feet tall and 7 1/2 feet long. And that's sitting on a new, shorter base that we made for it. It's massive.

What I Wore While Trying To Shove Shoes Into a Small Drawer:

2010-11-22 combo
  • grey skirt (via Goodwill)
  • white tuxedo front shirt (Target)
  • teal suede shoes (via Nordstrom)
  • brooch, worn at waist (via Goodwill)
  • earrings (??)

Can you use only the bottom portion of the card catalog? Then you could use it as a...buffet or something, and still have half in the garage for tools! There have been some posts about this on blogs like Apartment Therapy.

That may be massive, but it's really awesome. One of these days the perfect use for it will come to you.

Nooo! Such a tragedy! Maybe you could put just one heel in a drawer, using two drawers for your pumps and one drawer for other shoes...?

I have something similar in my room, and I like to put scarves, tights, and jewelry in the drawers. It protects them and also it's within easy reach. Just a thought.

Using it for tools would be such a waste.

Our school librarian uses hers in the library to organize office supplies. I think it's pretty awesome wherever you use it, but it would have been an amazing shoe storage. You could have even labeled each drawer, maybe with tiny pictures.

Oooooh, I like the suggestion Anonymous made about one drawer per shoe. Maybe that would work? That's a smart idea!

SO sad that it doesn't work the way you'd hoped!

I suspected that shoes might be too big! But I love the card catalog and the new use you found for it! It's bee yoo tee full!

Oh please, please, please don't ruin this gorgeous peice by using it in a garage! I agree with Allison, use it as a buffet or as Jane suggested for earrings and scarves and such.

I wonder if a wine bottles would fit? That would be another cute storage idea if you used it as a buffet in a dining room!

you have plenty of accessories for that! Is it 4 parts, 2 parts or all one piece? I can't tell, but it is LOVELY. Really amazing. And leaving it in a garage will be mortal sin Tina.

Looks like the perfect organizer for paper/ card stock / ribbons, etc. I think its time you start your own card and custom wedding invitation business. =)

I like Anonymous' idea as well - this is too cute to languish in the garage, Tina! This needs to be seen!

It's such an awesome piece.

It's so beautiful! Please don't just leave it in your garage! It should be a centerpiece. Put your tv on it? Do you have a long hallway/entryway? A formal dining room that needs a sideboard?

yes, I concur...try one shoe per box or scarves or something.

it is way tooooooooooooooo cute for garage.

Thanks for all the suggestions and compliments. Right now it's going to stay in the garage while I try to figure out what else to do with it. It is SO BIG that bringing it into the house without a place to put it and use it would cause problems.

A lot of you have suggested that I stick one shoe per drawer and I would totally do that if it would work. But it's not that the drawers are too short to put two shoes in; it's that the height of my heels makes each individual shoe too wide for the drawer, so one shoe would have the same problem that two shoes would have. I could definitely put all my kitten heels and flats in the drawer. Scarves, tights, etc was a great suggestion but even I don't have that many. So I'm going to think about it and see if maybe I can do some sort of combo or break the cataloge into smaller pieces.

Which brings me to the next question - yes it breaks into smaller pieces, but it splits vertically not horizontally and then that leaves one unfinished edge exposed. And sadly, it's not something that could just be painted to look better.

So I am pondering, pondering what I am going to do with it. I am so excited to own it even if I am stumped right now.
