Howdy, Neighbor!

Are we seriously house-hunting again after just 3 months at our new place? Yes we are! We're renting our current place and it seems that the owner of the house is being forclosed on. So we're looking for a house...to buy! We actually think we found a place, but it's a huge historic house and we're concerned about the cost of upkeep. So we popped in and met the neighbors to see what they had to say about it. It was very interesting.

What I Wore While Bugging the Neighbors:

2010-03-15 combo

  • skirt (Ann Klein)
  • green T (Lane Bryant)
  • brown necklace (no clue)
  • brown jacket (via Goodwill)
  • brown wedge boots (Cloudwalkers via Avenue)
  • yellow earrings (via Ross)
  • yellow rose brooch (via Goodwill)
  • brown purse (Nine West via Goodwill)

What I Ate While Waiting For the Realtor:

2010-03-15 food

  • breakfast: nonfat greek yogurt with almond extract, 1 T. sliced almonds, 1/2 c. strawberries
  • lunch: veggie and turkey wrap, snap peas, grapes, 1 oz Sun Chips
  • snack: 5 mini reeses
  • dinner: chips and queso with Rand, margarita, banana

One of the properties I manage is a 36,000 historic mansion that is now used as office space and an event facility (weddings, etc.). It was built in 1916 and is absolutely gorgeous. I could just sit in the place and look up at the ceilings and crown molding, etc. It is amazing all the stuff that can go wrong though and how hard it can be to find people that are skilled to work on boilers and replace crumbling plaster, etc. However, I think historic homes are totally worth it! Good luck with the house hunt and possible purchase!

P.S. It sucks that you have to move again so soon though! Yuck!

You look fabulous. So sorry that you have to move again.

Oh the thought of a historic home! Wow! I love flipping through decorating magazines to see how lovely the homes are done with just a hint of modern.

Owning is the way to go! I love the look and feel of historic homes...as a single gal now though I can't imagine the upkeep. If you are handy, or know someone who is, it could be fun!

Oh man I can't believe you have to go through moving again! But hopefully you'll find a great place to buy and never have to move again if you don't want to!

Also, you always have the best brooches. I seriously envy your collection.

Kimberly - I'm so glad that you commented. The house was built in 1912 and I hadn't even considered that it would be difficult to find people who had the right skills to do work on it. That is definitely worth thining about. Thanks!

LeShaune - Historic mansions make me drool too. I'm just not sure that the ownership of one will be as easy as looking at them in a magazine. LOL

Erin - seriously, I know. Stupid homeowner renting to use after he was already being forclosed on. There are a lot of forclosures in our neighborhood. Did you know that?

Lain - thank you very much for that comment. We were thinking the same thing - that unless the house is already in bad condition, why is they upkeep any more horrible than a house that is only 50 years old (of which there are tons here in Dallas). So I am glad to know that your 100 year old home isn't breaking the bank. Thanks!

Anon - We are thinking that we will certainly become very handy!

Kelly - thanks! I buy so many brooches at Goodwill. I just bought 4 there on Monday. The Goodwill's here in Dallas sell them for 79 cents! So I pick up any and all that tickle my fancy. And if I find out that I can't really wear them, then I just donate them back.

Sarah - oh you know I am all about the closets!

BBM - HAHAHAHA. You really made me smile. SOmehow I don't think my current neighbors think my fashion does anythng special for the neighborhood. In fact, I think they people across the street think I am really weird b/c they keep catching me taking my photos in the mornings.
