Giveaway: Cat Brooch

There were more people interested in the cat brooch than I had anticipated, so I thought I would have a little fun with it. If you want to win this brooch, tell me the name of your cats and I'll have Rand pick out his favorite name. My family has a tradition of naming their animals (especially their cats) some odd names, so don't be too shocked when you see my cats names. The first two are my cats; the others are/were family cats that we had when I was growing up or are out at the family ranch now. There are quite a few on the list b/c even though we never had more than 2 house cats, once we got the ranch, it wasn't uncommon to have 3-4 barn cats at a time.
  • Beau
  • Cracker
  • Piss (yes, really. a.k.a Mr. Piss-topher)
  • Vinegar (Piss's sister. They were "full of piss and vinegar" when they were kittens, plus their coloring fits the names)
  • Dog (a.k.a. Mr. Dog a.k.a Mr. Dog-Dog. No one is sure, but we think his real name was Felix when we first named him)
  • Syphilis (I told you it was going to get better. He was a stray that adopted my parents. He peed in the back of my step father's SUV on a hot summer day. My step father called him a "syphilistic bastard" and the name stuck. He was one of my favorite kitties ever. He was such a love slut that he even purred while you were giving him a bath. Plus he drooled. a lot.)
  • Puba (short for poopy butt. She doesn't have a tail and she had some issues when she was a little kitten. Enough said.)
  • Little Girl
  • Jezebel
  • Marcel Skelly de Crimp Jr. (It's not his fault, I was 13 when I named him)
  • The Fuzzy Wonder
So let me hear about your kitties. Feel free to chime in, even if you don't want the brooch, so if you DO want the brooch, be sure to state that in the comment.

ahh, i used to have 2 cats before i move in with the fiance. Chardonnay (Char for short) and Bailey -- who i swear i didnt purposefully name after liquor.
Char was part siamese. she was mostly white and she whined a lot. white, whine = Chardonnay.
Bailey, i named after Bill Bailey, a character from the musical Cats (my favorite). Bill Bailey isnt in all productions, but he is the young, teenage, troublemaker cat -- which fit my Bailey-girl to a tee.

My husband and I have 2 cats - Calvin, and Bitchface (I promise you, those are their names!). Calvin is a massive, 20 pound orange tiger, who really does nothing more than eat, sleep, and poo.
Bitchface is a petite, all-black female kitty, who we have had for 7 years. When she was a kitten, she was a TERROR, thus, earning her name. She has ran our household for the past 7 years, and we wouldn't have it any other way!

i love those names! i'm a real animal lover (2 dogs 2 cats) and love my names for all the critters...

dogs:
finn and munch (so named after law and order SVU characters... i wanted to name the first one ice T but my hubby wouldn't go for it... so finn it was!)

kitties:
both of their names have changed...
1) "BK" who is a very crabby fluff ball was originally named "Ying Ying"... a combination of yuengling beer and a stripper named ming ming. Then it turned to "Kitty" once we realized that he was a boy... and weren't creative enough for anything else. then it became "big kitty" when we got the second kitty... and now its "BK" which stands for big kitty... and he IS then king. (he he fast food... yum)
2) the second kitty is "little girl" (like your kitty) who was originally named "clover" because shes a tripod who is lucky... but not THAT lucky... get it? clovers have three leaves and they are lucky... but how lucky can you be if you're missing a leg? she also goes by "peanut", "shrill whiner" (she has QUITE the singing voice), and as of recently "princess" since BK is the king

WOW... i talk a lot.

anyway, love your blog and the pin is cute. :)

I have 2 cats right now:

Pikabu (pronounced Peek-a-boo). She showed up during the 2004 winter Olympics and earner her name because we were watching skiing a lot.

Youdolh (pronounced You-Doll, but we usually call her You - as in You DO NOT live here) She's aother "show cat" who has been with us for 2 years. We gave up trying to find her a home officially after a few months, but the name stuck.

I don't need any more jewelry, but love to talk about my kids.

Hi Tina!

My kitty's name is "Chairman Meow".

When we bought him home as a tiny tiny kitty he somehow managed to jump up onto the big leather tub chair in the lounge room. He surveyed the domain for a few moments before settling down and watching out of what has become his kingdom and we are his some what loyal subjects.

I currently have two cats: Pixie and Boots. They are half siblings born a month apart. We call them the "Whirling Dervishes". They are quite active kitties!
A year ago, we lost Feisty, at 19 1/2 years old. It was so hard...she was so sweet and loving! We miss her terribly, but the new ones are so sweet.
We love them too!

We currently have 2 cats at the moment. Figaro, who is an ancient Maine Coon cat was named that because he has a little moustache and then we have a young crazy calico female that my son in law named the "The Chief". Long story short, my son in law is in the military and my daughter got the kitten while B was in boot camp to be a friend for their rescue kitty Lola, who had been an only kitty in their house for a long time. (Who was lonely?) They ended up stationed in England...Lola crossed the pond and now "The Chief" lives with Grandma! When I made he appointment to be spayed, the vet tech thought I said "Bachief". We had a good laugh when I brought her in. Who names their cat "Bachief"? (or "The Chief" for that matter!) :)

I have three cats at the moment - Moonbeam (who should be named Moonchunk since he is 21 pounds and trying to lose 3), Sterling and Bob. And two dogs named Butters and Sprite.

Have had cats named Beausoleil, Clinton (rescued when Clinton was first running for president, kitten was grey and chubby), Frankie Sid Caesar (blue eyes and looked like Sid Caesar), Marshmallow, Peaseblossom, Sir Rufus Hillary....the list could go on but I'm sure you're glazing over by now. They were all brilliant cats and still missed.

We've got two kittens (they're almost a year old, will be in September) named Mischief & Mayheim or as I like to call them, the duo of M&M :) They've been little troublemakers (lived up to their names VERY much so! lol) since the day we got them but they play awesome with our Jack Chi doggie, Rice so we love them anyways :)

I love cats, but since my mom and sister are both allergic to cats, i was never allowed to have one! :(
But now that i have my own apartment, i have my very own lil' kitty cat! :D

Her name is Calista and she is an 8 yr old Siberian! Her name is of greek origin and means "beautiful" :)

I'm not much interested in the broach but just had to chime in with my kitties names.

Hubs and I rescued a kitten when we first started dating. Named him Bird because he liked to perch. On anything. The couch, his scratching post, my shoulder while I cooked.

We now have Currey who earned her name by being a calico horror as a kitten. I hate the spice currey and she was just so annoying I joined the two. She's also earned herself the nick name of Gazelle. She has a habit of leaping and bounding instead of running.

We also have Panda who is a little tuxedo kitty. She's still a kitten and very much a unholy freaking terror. She's earned herself the name Satan on wheels lately.

Craze, He was a wild and crazy guy!
Smoke, private reasons.
Booger, also private reasons.
B.J. (Booger Jr.,Son of Booger)
Acey, Black as the Ace of Spades.
Petey, a Siamese. Named after Pete Townshend. Inspired by the awesome album "All the Best Cowboys have Chinese Eyes"

Don't wear pins, so if Rand likes these names, Tigerteacher wins :))

Forgot to mention Data & Troi, (Star Trek, Next Gen) past beagle siblings and Rygel & Zhaan, (Farscape) current beagle sibs.
Can you tell we're sci-fi fans?

I don't really wear pins, but I thought I'd add some cat names to the mix anyway.

My family's current kitties are Django (mine), Neville (my sister's), Rizzo (my mom's), and Widgen (my dad's). We had one names Spike when I was growing up - rescued from a home full of Shelties!

I have two super-spoiled fluff balls. They are 5 years old and twin calicos.
Shangool: means tipsy, silly and playful in Persian.
Mangool: who has her head in the cloud, does her own thing and pretend she doesn’t understand us.
The names come from a children story about a mother goat who had three kids: Shangool who was very playful, Mangool who was not very smart and Little Grape who was very sweet. One day when the Mom is out, a big bad wolf comes to eat the kids….
You can see my kitties here: http://www.shangoolomangool.blogspot.com/
I don’t want the brooch but couldn’t resist gushing about my babies!

What a pretty broach - I'm up for it, but I'm not sure my cat's names are interesting enough!

We've worked our way through several cats over the years:

Vikki (she was a kitten of a cat belonging to the vicar!)
Scrumpy
Tent Peg (known as Peggy)
Lil
Dot (she has a big spot on her forehead!)
Sid
Elvis

and that's them - we're currently down to 2 cats - just Dot and Elvis left :*-(

I would so love your kitty pin *smiles* We currently have two kitties, one boy and one girl. They both are black haired, the boy kitty was the runt of the litter, my friend rescued the mama kitty and he was the only male of the litter. Our last name is Jones so we decided to name him Indiana Jones but we just call him Indy. Because he's so loving and all over us we somehow attached bug to his shortened name of Indy. So he is Indy-bug but six months ago we rescued the girl kitty. Her mama had been abandoned near our home and all the kitties scattered. Sadly some were killed in the road but we were able to capture one and another neighbor managed to get another. We named her Lady and naturally we attached bug to the end of her name... Now we have Indy bug and Lady bug and it's a bug infestation at our home *smiles* Lady is a small thing who thinks she is a cross between a dog and monkey, she wags her tag and squeeks like a monkey instead of meowing. Indybug loves water and will race into the bathroom each morning when I go in for my shower, standing on the tub ledge between the plastic liner and curtain just waiting for me to turn the water off so he can jump into the tub and lap the water in the drain. I always make sure all the soap residue has drained away before I shut the water off so he's not lapping that up. Such odd little kitties those two but they sure make us laugh on a daily basis *smiles*

I'd love to win the cat brooch.
I'm down to one cat now, one I inherited from my Mom when she died 8 years ago. My Mom just called her Cat, but we renamed her after my Mom (Ellie). We had as many as five cats and a dog at one point! We had one cat that was psycho, nicknamed him FUBAR (you know what that stands for, right -- F**ked Up Beyond All Recognition. A military term, I believe.

I currently do not own a cat (or one does not own me haha) but when I was in high school I had a cat whose name was Homer C. Puddlestupper. I had a love/hate relationship with that cat. He used to do the stupidest things that would crack me up. But if he got mad at you watch out! He would find something of yours and crap all over it! Ewww!!!!!!

I would LOVE to win the brooch - it is just darling.
The first cat in my life was when I was in my mother's womb, 50 years ago. According to ophtalmologists, that's how my mother contracted toxoplasmosis (sp?) which robbed me of eyesight in my right eye when I was born! Next was Felix (do you know "Felix the Cat" ? - dirrrrty comic!)who "came with" the house we lived in at the time. Shortly thereafter, Felix showed up with a broken hip. My father went to a surgeon friend of his who put a cast on Felix - from around his midriff all the way down to his toes. Felix took this with equanimity, and kept climbing up the curtains, cast and all, to my mother's despair... Well, if you ever had a cast, you will know: casts after a while itch like CRRRRRAZY. So Felix would come and use a corner of the carpet under the coffee table, inserting the corner into the cast, and rubbing it back and forth, to scratch. Then, one night, we found the cast WITHOUT Felix lying by the corner of the carpet! Felix's leg must have "shrunk" like limbs do in a cast, and the cast got off. And Felix kept visiting us until we moved.
The next cat in my life was Rosalie. I was a University student, struggling between my studies and all sorts of jobs to make ends meet. A friend of mine had a Siamese cat who had a litter but the mama cat wanted NOTHING to do with her kittens. My heart melted for the runt of the litter, and I brought her home. Being poor (did I mention I was poor?) I went to the pharmacy and they gave me a glass bottle on which they fitted a nipple, free of charge. And I got plain milk from the supermarket. But I slept with the bottle on my stomach so that it would be warm for her to drink from when she meowed at night... Rosalie turned out to be a TERROR for anybody but me. And she always was a wild child who had to be allowed her freedom. Sadly, one night, she got hit by a car while roaming. I buried her in my grandparents' garden.
My next cat was "Mr. Whiskers", Also "inherited" with the house I rented at the time. Neighbors had told me: "Oh, BTW, you'll get this cat to visit, he used to be fed by the previous renters". Then, Mr. Whiskers showed up, and OMG - he was GORGEOUS, with a fluffy coat, probably part Persian - and he was a MESS - he probably had gotten in a fight and half of his face was gone!! I EVENTUALLY managed to clean his face(thank YOU, whoever manufactures plastic gloves one uses to do the dishes!), and we got used to each other. But we were never "chummy" unless Mr. Whiskers once in a while would loll on my lap to my utmost pleasure and amazement. One night, he was "home" and all of a sudden dashed in the attached garage. I heard all sorts of squeaks and thought "what the heck is he up to now?" but given our relationship, I let it go. The next morning, when I went to my car, I found rodent guts on the floor of the garage... Did I mention that Mr. Whiskers was a wild child?
The last cat in my life (so far!)was when I arrived in America. Yes, I am a (legal!!!!!) immigrant - but you probably guessed with my handling of the English language... Anyway, I came first to this country as an au pair. And I "inherited" (do we detect a trend here?) two toddlers, a HUGE Rottweiler (if you don't know, that's a big dog) and a kitten. She was so precious, I named her "Jolie" which in my language (I am from France - As the closing line in "Somebody likes it hot" says: "Nobody's perfect!") means "pretty". My second job (after the kids who were my priority, believe me) was to get the dog to accept and respect Jolie. Little by little, everything fell into place and Jolie LOVED to come sleep with me. Me, I was away from home, in a foreign country, and she brought me more comfort and solace than anyone can know.....
I am happy I got to meet all these wonderful cats and look forward to the next ones who will choose to cross my life!

HI,

The brooch is just gorgeous.

It made me think of a few brooches I already own and I realise I am a cat brooch addict!

I ahve two beautiful cats, one is black and white, looks slightly like Charlie Chaplin...her name is Tumshie..she is easily the most affectionate cat in the world..well to me any way.

My other cat is the cutest white and pink cat. She looks like an angel but can be like the spawn of satan. However her mission in life is to escort us to the bathroom and stand guard. Very comforting at two in the morning. She sits there with an air of martyrdom and her body language screams she needs a coffee, but there she stays and then escorts you back to bed and goes off to continue her dreams!!

Our previous cat, may she RIP, was a Tuxedo female named Tinka.

My cat is the light of my life, his name is 'COWBOY JACK' and he answers to 'Cowboy', 'Jack' or 'Babycat'.
He's a shelter rescue from Arizona Humane Society and is absolutely spoiled rotten. Brown and black tabby, all black feet and paw pads, adorable, with big green eyes.
