Safari Style

I started out with a nice warm winter blazer, added a variety of layers and when I was done getting dressed today, I realized that I looked like I was going on a safari. So of course I grabbed my pith helmet, my opera glasses, and my shotgun and took a few safari pics. I was freezing my butt off but I had so much fun with my backyard safari.

What I Wore on a Backyard Safari:

2009-12-09 combo

  • brown slacks (George via Walmart)
  • brown trouser socks (Lane Bryant)
  • brown zebra blouse (Lanr Bryant)
  • green wrap sweater (Target)
  • brown plaid tweed blazer (Lane Bryant)
  • brown flats (via DSW)
  • jade elephant necklace (Ross)*
  • faux jade earrings (I think from Payless)

* Yes, this is real jade and I got it at Ross, if you can believe that.

(what am I hunting? Bargains, of course!**)

** I'm stealing things from the comments. Thanks, Autumn Rose, for having a much wittier idea for what I was hunting than I did. ha!

You crack me up, Tina! This is a great outfit (love the shoes), and it's so fun with the rifle and pith helmet. Seriously, you own a rifle and pith helmet. You are my heroine!

Do you remember when Banana Republic was safari style?

Sheila - you know? I cracked myself up yesterday too. LOL. It's actually a teeny tiny shot gun that probably wouldn't even hurt you if you got hit with a shell from it. A family member gave it to me for a Y2K gun. HAHAHA. I don't remember how I ended up with the pith helmet, but it made the cut when I was weeding out hats last week.

Autumn Rose - where were you when I was writing this post. I definitely should have said that I was hunting bargains. That is too awesome. In fact, I'm going to edit the page. hehe

Stacy - duh. of course it is. It was Potter Girl Hat Day, wasn't it?

hillary - I was going through an old suitcase of clothes that I kept from highschool. And I pulled out an old Banana Republic dress that was definitely safari-esque and I think the old BR label even said safari on it. It's in my pile to go to Goodwill b/c it's a 6 and I don't think I will ever be that thin again. Esp if we're talking early 90s sizing.

I was going to ask why in the world you own a pith helmet, but I guess you don't know either!

The opera glasses and gun make sense (because you seem like the cultured type who might enjoy opera and, hello! you live in Texas), but the helmet has me baffled!

Dr. Da - thanks!

K - thanks!

Kasmira - You are right about the opera glasses and the gun (although of the two, I've only every actually used the opera glasses more than once). I was thinking about it a little bit more and I think someone came back from a trip and gave the pith helmet to my stepfather and I promptly commandeered it for future Halloween costume use. Sadly this is the first time I've actually worn it and I've had it for at least 10 years.

Ok, the fact that you have an actual pith helmet is (for some reason) hilarious.

I love the color combo - super cute.
