Homage to the Purple Lady

When I was growing up, I lived in southern Virginia. And there was this woman who everyone knew of. She was The Purple Lady because everything she wore was purple. Everything. I even saw her once with a purple purse that she had made from carpet. Where do you find purple carpet? Well, I'm sure she had lots of it b/c not only did she only wear purple but she also extended purple into every part of her life - she even painted the public light posts in front of her house purple up as far as she could reach. So, I dedicate today's outfit to her. She would have approved of the color of my sweater, even if the other items weren't quite the right shade of purple.

What I Wore While Channeling The Purple Lady:

  • lavendar tweed skirt (Lane Bryant)
  • lavendar T (Target)
  • purple sweater (Target)
  • purple/taupe faux snakeskin flats (Target)
  • beaded belt (no clue. It's sooo old)
  • fauz champagne earings (thrifted new, Goodwill)
  • faux champagne necklace (thrifted, Ladies of Charity)
  • purple glass brooch (inherited from grandmother)

What I Ate After A New WW Meeting:

  • breakfast: cheesy egg, bagel, apple
  • lunch: smoked salmon sandwich, carrot, yellow squash, cantaloupe
  • snacks: nonfat greek yogurt, blueberries, Cliff Z bar
  • dinner: footlong veggie delight sub with cheese (Subway)
  • dessert: 5 almonds

Exercise:

I totally forgot one of my walks and stood up my walking budding in the afternoon. Oops. 1.25 miles walking.

Weekly Weigh-In:

I tried out a new WW meeting today on the advice of a neighbor that usually attends this meeting. As a result I weighed in after eating all my daily food except dinner. Usually I weigh in first thing Sat mornings, before I eat anything. So that combined with some poor shoices over the weekend resulted in a 3 lb GAIN. ugh. If I had to guess, I would say that I actually gained about 1/2 lb and the other 2.5 lbs is just from the different weigh in time. That's based on what my scale at home says. I'm trying not to let it get me down. I just need to compare this weight to what the meeting next Tuesday evening says. Then it's apples to apples and not oranges. However, I am bummed that they had a substitute meeting leader, so I didn't even get to see if liked this leader. And I have no idea what the meeting topic was. Basically she just told us about her life. It was odd. But I did get to share my diet margarita recipe, which all the other Tex-Mex loving ladies (that's all of us here in Texas) seemed very interested in. So maybe not a total waste of an hour.

Total for the Day: 26.5 points, 1.25 miles walking, 3 pound gain

WW Comes A-Calling

Wedding planning is in full swing, and some of it is definitely more fun than other things. Having the caterer set a huge plate of yummy Tex-Mex food in front you of counts a fun in my book!

What I Wore While Having a Tasting With the Caterer:

  • aqua T (Old Navy)
  • pink side tie lace blouse (Lane Bryant)
  • jeans (l.e.i.)
  • madras wedges (Target)
  • bracelet (thrifted, Goodwill)
  • earrings & necklace (Ross)
What I Did Thanks to Sheila:

Sheila is one of my favorite bloggers. If you don't know her, she posts daily outfits that are fab. And mixed in with her commentary are little nuggets about her life. One such nugget was that she still attends Weight Watchers meetings after having lost a lot of weight. Another nugget? She walks to her meetings. She inspired me. I've been toying with the idea of joining WW, so I did it. And I walked there! It's about 3 miles round trip. Yay me! Yay Sheila!

So my first WW meeting was okay. Their scale is different from mine (shocking, I know) and I didn't even bother to take of my running shoes to weigh in. I figure if I start out with my shoes on, then I can just keep doing it that way and the weight changes will be accurate. And that way I don't have to eff with my shoes. Much easier. Although I did get some odd looks from the other people weighing in.

So here is what their scale said I weighed...224.2. So let's start this. My goal this week: work out 4-5 days and track my points/calories. I've been tracking my calories on The Daily Plate, which I love and is so much more user friendly than the WW site, so it's going to be a challenge to get used to the new system.

We Will, We Will Rock You, Rock You!

If you read Sunday's post about the jewelry Maria loaned me, you will recognize this necklace from the Rock It Challenge she issued. To help you determine if it is The Rock It Challenge Piece, I will describe it a little bit for you.

It's made of wooden and stone beads of various sizes and shapes. No two beads are alike. Most of the beads are wooden and they are painted in shades of brown, black, and metallic silver, plus a few are natural. They are strung on a black thread of about the same weight as for a string of pearls. All the beads are knotted in place. If I had to guess, I would say it's from the 90s, but that's a total guess.

So, what do you think? Is this the challenge piece?

What I Wore While Rockin' a Beaded Necklace:

  • maroon tulip skirt (Lane Bryant)
  • brown/cream flutter sleeve, sheer, zebra print blouse (Lane Bryant)
  • bead necklace (borrowed from Maria)
  • amber necklace (gift from Rand)
  • black/cream wooden stretch bracelet (??)
  • silvertone/tortoise earrings (via Macy's)
  • skinny black belt (Nine West)
  • maroon suede heels (Jessica Simpson, thrifted Goodwill) *

* in the light in my house, these shoes went quite well with the skirt, but as soon as I stepped into the flourescent light of my office building, not so much. Oh well. It was better than the alternative of wearing my driving shoes all day. Yikes!

What I Ate After Giving Myself a Stern Talking To:

I had to have a little come to Jesus meeting with myself yesterday. It took me 2 months to lose 10 pounds, and 3 weeks to gain 6. Not cool, Tina, not cool. You deserve better than that. Treat your body better! So, no drinking and no weekday splurge meals this week. We bought groceries and made a meal plan.

Hopefully I can get back on track. I am seriously considering Weight Watchers. I might go to a free meeting this week to check it out.

Tonight we had the most awesome veggie pizza! (We use store bought crust.)

Total for the Day: 1676 calories, 7 glasses of water, 10 minutes of frisbee (not really exercise, but there was a little running involved)

Guest Blogger - Stacy, Part III

Stacy is back for the third Friday this month and she's been shopping! Like many of the saavy, fashionable ladies in the blogosphere, she hit up Target for some inexpensive and lovely goodies. This bright pink wrap sweater was one of her new finds. I love it!

Without further ado, here's Stacy...

Did I work out? Um....well....see..does yawning and stretching during a meeting count? No? Well, what about intentionally using the 2nd floor restroom 3 times so as to use the stairs? Maybe? I even parked way way way out and the end of the lot so as to walk as far as possible from the building to my car.... =)

Pathetic I know. =(

Well Stacy, I don't think that you are pathetic. I think we have all had days where our "exercise" was limited to reaching for the TV remote or walking to the kitchen to grab a snack. And while walking up the stairs to go to the bathroom on a different floor isn't going to make you skinny, I think it's always a good thing to do small little "tricks" rather than do nothing at all. And I happen to know that you rode your bike 34 miles over the weekend, so it looks like we just caught you on a non-exercise day.
