Twitter & The Tin Man

I have been dying to stop by and take pics with the giant metal sculpture of a man playing a guitar. A shiny metal man. I finally screwed up the courage to do it in the middle of rush hour today. I deserve a medal for my bravery. A shiny metal medal.

Do you twitter? or tweet or whatever the right word is. When I went to the Lane Bryant Conference, I was the only blogger who didn't use twitter. So I finally gave in and set up an account. Give me a shout. Or a tweet, I guess. LOL

Lane Bryant Makeover

I finally have makeover pics from the Lane Bryant Blogger Conference. Yay! Obviously, all the clothes pictured are from Lane Bryant. I adore this necklace and these shoes. In fact, I wore the shoes for 4 days in a row right after I got them.

Lane Bryant Blogger Conference, Part I

We had a full day planned for the Lane Bryant blogger conference, so we started really early. First stop: the Lane Bryant store at Easton. This was such a beautiful store! While we were there, each of us got to check out the latest collection: jungle safari. Plus, we selected outfits for our afternoon makeover photo shoot. It was fascinating to see how all the different bloggers approached shopping and what everyone picked out for themselves.

While we were in the store, I spent some time with Robert Rutkauskas (Sr. Designer - Trend, Color, Fabric & CAD) and he explained all the influences that come together in creating a collection. Lane Bryant start collections more than a year in advance and bring out a new collection each season with "mini collections" each month. They work hard to create a cohesive collection that will transition from season to season and allow the customers to transition their current pieces with new pieces. I had no idea!

(Sarah of Bombshell Beauty, Kimberly of Fab Finds Under $50, me, Aimee of Madison Plus, Alissa of Stylish Curves & the Budget Fashionista, Michelle of Venus Vision, Di of Fat Chic, Allison of Curvy Girl Chic, Marie Denee of the Curvy Fashionista)

After the shopping, we headed to Lane Bryant HQ were we had a series of round table discussions with the VPs, the merchants, and the designers. This was easily the most fascinating part of the day. We got to hear about how & why the clothing in the store is the way it is. And I mean everything from what influences their color and style choice each season (upcoming influence from Madonna, Grace Kelly, and Audry Hepburn) to why their pants are fitting differently (they are working hard to get back to their core fit that everyone loves so much). Plus we got to ask them all your questions and give them all your requests and feedback. And let me tell you this - they were taking notes! So hopefully we'll get shirts that don't require camis underneath, swimsuits with better support, and maybe even sexy lingerie based on real bra sizes.
Next up: a tour of the the design facilities and a preview of the collections for Fall and the Holidays. I could not bring my camera along for that part, but there are some beautiful things coming out. I am particularly excited by the french influence that is coming out in some of their lingerie and some super chic houndstooth jackets. I can't wait!

Check out this video that Lane Bryant put together with footage from the day (yes, everything we did was filmed. I'm totally a star now. ha!)

Tripod Addiction

I'll give a full recap of the Lane Bryant Blogger Conference in a separate post, but first I wanted to do a daily post from that day.

The other bloggers thought it was hilarious that I had my tripod with me, but a girl's got to do what a girl's got to do. And this girl needed her daily outfit photos taken. Seriously, what better place than right there in the store?

Kimberly thought it was so funny that she took a pic of me taking my pics and then tweeted about it. What can I say? I've got a tripod and I'm not afraid to use it. I guess I'm getting less self-conscious about being seen taking my photos, and let's be honest - a group of fashion bloggers weren't going to judge me.

Okay, maybe they did a little. But that's okay too.

What I Wore To the Lane Bryant Blogger Conference:

2010-06-03 combo

Sometimes "close enough" is REALLY wrong

Well I am finally in Columbus for the Lane Bryant Blogger Conference. Whew! I almost didn't make it.

First, It took a lot to get me on the plane. I left super early but even so, I barely made it to the gate on time. Why? Well first I decided to be lazy and park at the gate instead of offsite parking, but there were no spots so I drove around for 20 minutes trying to find one. And then I had to walk way farther than I like in heels (and 100 degree heat) to the terminal.

And this formally travel saavy girl just did not pack appropriately. I totally forgot that American Airlines now charges for all checked bags and I had two! I hadn't wanted to bring my big bag b/c I didn't need it so I had a small roller bag, a small toiletry bag, my laptop bag, and my large purse. Well I was not going to pay $60 to check 2 bags, so I consolidated down to one checked bag. And I went back out in the 100 degree heat to take the extra bag to my car. Then I thought, eh I can do better than that. So I decided to consolidate down to just carryon. But then I forgot that I didn't have my liquids in a ziplock bag because I had been going to check it. Thankfully DFW actually had some for people to use at security. But then I was carrying my laptop which gave me 1 too many items to carry-on. And the gate attendant busted me. So I shoved it on the top of my purse. By the time I got to my seat I was a hot sweaty mess and my makeup had all melted off. Just the way a fashion blogger should be. Ha! (see hot sweaty Tina on a plane -----------------^)

And then I checked into the wrong hotel. Considering that I ran into Alyssa from the Budget Fashionista & Stylish Curves at the airport and we rode the shuttle to the hotel together, I don't see how it happened. But after finding a name similar to mine in the system they checked me in and I went to my room. Only to find out an hour later that Alyssa went to the other hotel and I was actually in someone else's room who conincidentally had a name very similar to mine. Weird! I didn't figure it out until we were making dinner plans. Luckily, Kimberly from Fab Finds Under 50 had a rental car so she rescued me.

After geting picked up we all (including Sara from Bombshell Beauty) went out to dinner. These girls are a blast. Everyone is so friendly and talkative (and they are all even more beautiful in person). Seriously. I thought we would have a nice chit chat with some small talk over dinner, but it was so much better than just that. Thanks, Lane Bryant, for bringing us all together (and thank Kimberly for rescuing me fromthe wrong hotel in a tsunami).

After all that I finally got checked into my correct hotel at 9:30 pm.

What I Wore While Traveling...A LOT:

2010-06-02 combo

  • dress (Lane Bryant)
  • red blouse (via Kohls)
  • black belt (Target)
  • black heels (Guess)
  • black necklace (via Goodwill) *

* I love how this necklace toughened up my outfit a little, and sadly I didn't put it on before I took my pics. I meant to take more pics in Columbus, but it was such a crazy day that I forgot.

Tomorrow - the real conference begins!

Meet the Bloggers

My bags are packed, my camera is charged, and my travel documents are printed off and ready to go. That must mean it's time for me to head to Columbus, Ohio for the Lane Bryant Bloggers Conference. I'm so excited to get to talk to the designers & execs, to go to my makeover and fashion shoot, and to preview the new collections. But the best part? In just a few hours I am going to get to meet all these great plus size fashion bloggers:

Be sure to check out their great blogs! I am sure that there are going to be tons and tons of tweets, posts, and pics from everyone.

Questions for Lane Bryant Conference

I was at the mall getting some 1/2 price jewelry at J.C. Penney's Memorial Day Door Buster sale. It's right next to Lane Bryant, so I popped in to try on some clothes. I wasn't planning on buying anything, but I wanted to see what my current sizing is since I've put on a little weight lately. I wanted to know what size I needed when I selected my outfit at the Lane Bryant Blogger Conference.

Speaking of the conference, there are a couple of things I keep meaning to write, but I keep forgetting. Thankfully, R left me a comment today on this post and had a question she wants me to ask the designers, which reminded to ask all of you:

Do you have any questions for the merchants or designers at Lane Brant?

We're having a Q&A session at the conference, and I would love to be able ask them anything you want to know. So leave comments with any questions you have.

And another thing is from the press release that Lane Bryant put out about the conference. It says "Lane Bryant is bringing 13 of the Web's top full-figure fashion authorities to its Columbus headquarters on June 3 to celebrate the unique intersection of fashion and social media." OMG, y'all. I am one of only 13 people going to this thing. I knew it was a small group, but I had not idea it was going to be this intimate of a shindig. And I am one of the 13 "top full-figure fashion authorities" on the internet?? Wow! I blushed when I read that. Anyway, I don't usually toot my own horn, but reading that made me so proud. Can you tell that I am super excited about this conference?? Can't wait!
